Corrosion protection

SteelMAX Smart Stump fittings are either hot-dipped galvanised or dacrotised, which contributes to corrosion protection.

To ensure you protect all parts of your stump system against corrosion, we recommend:

• Using Gal 140 (or equivalent) stump tube to comply with BCA requirements
• Using only galvanised screws or bolts with rubberised protection paint where bare metal is exposed bu cutting
• Finishing the tops of footings approximately 50mm above finished ground level and providing a slight slope to promote drainage away from the stump base
• Advising home occupants not to build gardens or any sub-floor
• Painting the entirety of the base fittings and all cut ends of the stump tube to 100mm above ground with rubberised paint
• Painting any abutting surfaces with rubberised paint to prevent oxidisation of zinc coatings through capillary action, especially if CCA-treated timber is used in contact with metal components or members
• Painting stumps cast into footings from below the base plate to approximately 100mm about finished ground level with rubberised paint
• Allowing a small gap between the bottom of the stump tube where it meets the flat section of the base fitting to allow any moisture to drain out
• Ensuring that the stump bases are not back-filled or covered with material that could hold moisture, inhibit drainage or conceal termite trails
• Remvoing all swarf, metal filings and other moisture-holding or corrosive material from the area, leaving the stumps clear and cleaned of any corrosive elements
• Washing away corrosive fluids used on site, for example, those used for cleaning brickwork
• Ensuring that water and other fluids do not pool at the stump base
